Janet Loughrey's Garden

I care for 100 roses and hundreds of perennials and annuals on a standard (50 x 100) city lot in Portland, Oregon.

Two patios are host to dozens of container plantings. My vegetables, herbs and dahlias (50 varieties) are grown on two nearby community garden plots.

I consider myself a "collector" gardener--trying new plants as they come out. My garden also is my studio; many of my photos are created here. I think that being a gardener and tending to plants on a daily basis makes me a better plant photographer. I understand the habits and virtues of each plant. It also makes plant identification easier when I'm photographing in a private or public garden, or in a nursery.
